Fines issued after men from 100 miles apart meet at McDonald’s

Three men who live more than 100 miles apart have been fined by police for meeting at McDonald's.

Official lockdown regulations in England say that exercise is limited to once a day and you should not leave your local area, in a bid to halt the surge in coronavirus cases.

Derbyshire Constabulary officers spotted a car pulling into one of the chain's restaurants in Chesterfield on Monday, January 11.

Alarm bells started to ring when police saw the Mercedes had a smashed front windscreen and no wipers, Derby Telegraph report.

After speaking to the three men inside the car, officers realised they were from completely different parts of the country.

One of the men lived in Lancashire and two came from Leicestershire.

Having determined the men had made a non-essential journey, officers fined them £200 each for breaking Covid rules.

The add insult to injury, the condition of the car meant police could not allow it to go any further, meaning the men had to find alternative arrangements to get home.

In a tweet, Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit joked the men had decided to drive to McDonald's for exercise.

They said: "Chesterfield. Three friends visiting the very well known exercise location of McDonald's at Hornsbridge.

"Two from Leicestershire and one from Lancashire. Smashed front screen and no wipers.

"Prohibited from further movement. Covid tickets. #PG9 #StayHome"
