Celebrity ... where would the theatre be without it? Well, there would be far fewer navel-gazing plays examining our obsession with the famous and their influences on our lives. Owen O'Neill's story of approaching 50 and waking up to reality to discover that his wife (Pauline Goldsmith) is going to leave him unless he renounces his obsession for old rubber lips, which does at least offer plenty of laughter if no new insights.
Part of that awkward genre of theatre which falls between the stand-up set and a fully fledged play (and often taking the worst of both), Finding Mick Jagger is at its best when it is at its most surreal - when O'Neill encounters the bouncers at the door of celebrity as he searches for his idol in order to persuade him he must retire. In order to really work, the show needs less of the back story - O'Neill's childhood love of his hero -and more about his relationship with his wife, so you feel that there is something real at stake.
However, although the first 50 minutes are only mildly good fun, the final 10 minutes are just so brilliant, you leave the theatre with a smile on your face.
