'Finding Jack Charlton': trailer, synopsis, BBC release date

The feature length documentary 'Finding Jack Charlton' is coming to BBC Two.

Digitally released in late November, the film is directed by Gabriel Clarke and Pete Thomas and has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from the critics.

Clarke and Thomas' original intention was to interview Charlton on his time in charge of the Irish national team from 1986 to 1996.

Realising Charlton's dementia was too advanced for him to reflect on the past, the focus shifted instead onto Jack's illness and the impact it has had on both him and his family.

Described as "a portrait of an extraordinary man", Finding Jack Charlton is the story of "an English World Cup-winning legend, who became an Irish hero".

While all members of England's 1966 World Cup-winning side are considered legends on this side of the Irish, there is no place he's appreciated more than here in Leeds.

A one-club, Charlton played in the white of Leeds for 21 years between 1952-73, winning both a First & Second Division title, an FA Cup and a League Cup.

During his time in charge of the Republic of Ireland, he led the Boys in Green to successful qualifications in Euro 1988 and World Cup '94.

His achievements earned him the Freedom of the City of Dublin; the first time an Englishman had been awarded the honour since 1854.

Charlton died last July, aged 85.

Finding Jack Charlton is currently billed as 'Coming Soon' on BBC2.
