Callum Davidson expressed his pleasure at picking up full points on a day the performance didn’t hit the heights he expects.
The St Johnstone manager watched his players scrap to a massively important victory against St Mirren at McDiarmid Park.
While the showing was not as fluid as other occasions this campaign, it was very much a case of job done.
Chris Kane’s winner at the beginning of the second half signalled a first league win in 11 matches.
“It was a funny game because it’s probably the worst we’ve played,” Davidson said.
“I thought first half was a real tight affair. Guy (Melamed) had the best chance and probably should’ve put it away.
“I asked the players for a little more energy going into the second half. We got the early goal.
“When we did that and they got the man sent off, from then on I didn’t think we were good enough.
“But I’ve been here enough saying we’ve played really well and not got anything from the game.
“The three points are so important. When you haven’t won for a wee while, it’s sometimes difficult to get over the line.”
The Perth defence had welcomed back skipper Jason Kerr and he performed strongly alongside Liam Gordon and Jamie McCart.
Davidson was pleased with how solid his side looked.
He said: “They defended really well, put their bodies on the line and didn’t really allow St Mirren into our box.”
