A Japanese woman loses her best friend
Many romantic movies end with marriage proposals or beautiful weddings. But the Japanese movie, Only the Cat Knows, which is based on the manga of the same name, tells what happens after several years of marriage.
The movie starts with an old married couple who have been together for 44 years. Their married life looks tedious because the husband, Masaru, has never shown any affection to his wife Yukiko and barely talks to her, even though she takes good care of him. The only friend Yukiko can count on is a black stray cat called Chibi. When Yukiko’s patience comes to an end, she tells her daughter that she wants a divorce. Then, her only friend Chibi suddenly goes missing. Yukiko is worried and starts looking for it.
