'Find owner of abandoned pit bull that killed my mum', distraught daughter says

A daughter whose mum was mauled to death by a stray pit bull terrier she had taken in has demanded authorities find the owner who abandoned the dangerous dog.

Anne Shields, 67, sustained “catastrophic” head and arm injuries after the dog suddenly turned on her at her holiday home in Valencia, Spain.

The British woman's neighbours raised the alarm when they heard her screams. Police raced to the house and shot the dog so they could reach her.

But Anne, a mum-of-one and former security guard, sadly died the next day in the hospital on February 24.

Her daughter Sarah Shields has said she now hopes the dog's previous owner who abandoned the animal can be tracked down.

Anne had found the dog, who she named Chocky, three days prior with the intention of taking it to a shelter, but they were full.

Sarah, 43, told El Espanol: "I hope the media coverage will find the owner who abandoned this dog knowing it was a dangerous breed."

The Guardia Civil is said to be carrying out an investigation to find out who the original owner is, but efforts are being hampered as the dog was not electronically chipped.

Sarah has claimed that when her mum took Chocky to the vet they had seen a dog of a similar description that had also attacked someone.

She told the paper: "A dog matching the same description had bitten a man on the arm in the river. My mother was frightened. That incident was before my mother took the dog to the vet."

However, she says that another pit bull in the same area was found so there could have been two dogs instead of him. But she maintains that the vet shouldn't have allowed her mum to take the dog home following the other attack.

She added: "I don't understand why he let my mother take the dog home after they did a blood test and showed that it was a purebred pit bull."

The Guardia Civil says they are not aware of the existence of a second aggression or a second pit bull abandoned in the area.

She previously said: "She was looking after him until she found someone who could take him."

“She stuck with him and then this happened. It’s a nightmare.”

Sarah said: “She was so caring. This hasn’t really sunk in. We’ll miss her so much.”
