Find out what tier and restrictions your postcode is in with our widget

A new three tier system has been announced earlier today regarding what restrictions are in place around the country to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has addressed MPs in the House of Commons earlier today, and explained how the new restrictions would work.

Briefly he said, tier one, classed as 'medium alert level', will consist of the current national measures including a 10pm curfew on hospitality businesses and the rule of six in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Tier two is classed as 'high alert level', and will apply to most of the areas that are currently under local lockdown restrictions, according to Mr Johnson.

Areas in 'high alert level' will not be able to mix with other households indoors, however in outdoor settings - like private gardens and parks - the rule of six will be in force.

Tier three is classed as 'very high alert level' and will see areas with the strictest measures in place, including prohibiting mixing of households indoors and in private gardens, but in open public spaces the rule of six will apply.

A number of businesses, including pubs and restaurants, will be told to close - but they will be allowed to remain open if they operate as if they are a restaurant.

People living in a tier three area will be advised not to travel in and out of these areas. They should also avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK.

However, with some parts of Greater Manchester being under different rules to their neighbouring borough, it can be quite difficult to get your head around.

We have made an interactive widget which will make it easier to find out what the exact rules in your area are.

It will explain what the current restrictions are where you live and what the government advice is for what you can and cannot do.
