Find out how life has changed during lockdown in the North East

How has life in the North East been affected by lockdown?

Location information collected by Google shines a light on how our movements and lifestyles have changed in recent months.

Across the board, we are staying well away from shops, workplaces and public transport - but we're flocking to the park.

You can find out how life has changed in your area by using the tool below.

Unsurprisingly, we're spending 68% less time in retail and recreation locations and 78% less time in workplaces in Tyne and Wear, with similar figures in Northumberland and County Durham too.

Time spent in grocery and pharmacy stores is down across the board too, with many of us shopping once a week.

But, with little else to do, the figures reveal we're spending a lot more time in the park.

That's not entirely surprising given how rubbish the weather was before lockdown, but the data show an interesting spike in park visits since the lockdown has been eased.

Reach's data unit have analysed anonymised information collected by Google product users who have their location history switched on.

The figures compare the most recent data, from two to three days ago, to the average for the corresponding day of the week during the five-week period January 3 to February 6, 2020.

It doesn't give you a complete picture but it does reveal a good picture of how radically our habits have changed recently.
