Find 500 walking trails around Liverpool you might not have discovered before

Getting out at the weekend for a good walk is a great way to pass the time without spending too much money.

Here on Merseyside we're lucky to have so many wonderful parks and coastal walks on our doorstep, but it's always nice to discover somewhere new as it's easy to get bored of treading the same paths.

Recently people have been doing just that, using an app that's grown in popularity in recent years. The All Trails app lets you find top walking trails near to where you live and you can use it to search for and plan walks further afield.

If you're keen to discover new places to walk, the All Trails app has a list of hundreds of trails in Liverpool and not too far away for those wanting to go a little further. On the app you can see a map of each walk, the distance and whether it's a loop walk or point to point.

It also shows what kind of walk it is in terms of the terrain, whether it's dog-friendly, offers views and is suitable for children. People using it can also leave reviews and post pictures.

You can set your distance away, activity level, difficulty level and length to find the perfect walk for you. And the possibilities are endless, whether you want a nice and quiet family day out or to challenge yourself and your fitness.

By searching for walks in Liverpool you can discover trails including the 8k Hale Park and River Mersey loop, a 16k Liverpool Waterfront and Parks Circular and a 2.4k Princes Park Walk, plus many over in Wirral and around Formby, Southport and Ainsdale.

Here are just some of the walks found on the app, right here in Merseyside:

Sefton Park Loop

In Sefton Park this 4.35km walk is a circular route that will take around one hour to complete. According to All Trails it is an easy route, child friendly and is "very popular".

New Brighton to Seacombe

This 7.72km walk is an out and back trail near Wallasey and will take around one and a half hours to complete. The easy route is popular for walking, cycling and running.

All Trails reads: "This is a straightforward out and back route along the New Brighton seaside with views of Liverpool across the water. There are many pubs and cafes along the way if you wish to stop for refreshments."

Allerton Country Circular

Situated at Calderstones Park, the 11.6km circular route will take around three hours to complete and is considered moderately challenging. It is open all year round and is a popular trail.

According to All Trails, you will start in Calderstones Park walking past places of historical interest before heading to Allerton Towers and then Camp Hill. You then head towards Childwall Wood which has "remained virtually unchanged since they were planted in the 1700s."

Wirral Way: Heswall to West Kirby

This out and back walk will take around three hours to complete taking you through the countryside. Starting is Heswall you will walk to Ashton Park following the Wirral Way, a disused railway line.
