Finchley incident: Woman found dead in 'suspicious' circumstances at north London hotel

A police investigation is underway after a woman in her 30s was found dead at a north London hotel.

Met officers were called at 2.44pm this afternoon after a woman was found unresponsive in the building.

Scotland Yard said the death in Leisure Way, Finchley, is being treated as suspicious.

Guests were evacuated from the hotel after a substance was found at the scene, which was later determined to be heroin.

Some guests were checked by medical teams as the situation unfolded while the substance was assessed.

A large police presence was at the scene, while ambulance crews and the fire brigade also attended.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “A women in her 30s was found unresponsive by staff in the building.

“London Ambulance Service attended and the female was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Efforts are ongoing to identify the woman and inform next of kin.

“Her death is currently being treated as suspicious.”

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed that a number of other people were assessed by medical staff.

She said: "We were called at 2:46pm today (06 June) to reports of an incident on Leisure Way, Finchley.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene.

"Sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. We assessed an additional six people but they were not taken to hospital."

London Fire Brigade confirmed its attendance to the Standard.
