Excellent editorial in the Financial Times about the lack of press freedom in China, pegged to the case of Ching Cheong,, the Hong Kong-based journalist who has just been secretly tried on spy charges. The FT's leader states: "Typically, China brings charges against journalists under its state secrecy laws. These are so vague and so sweeping as to justify prosecution for almost anything that displeases officials. In practice, they are an instrument of state control." Hear, hear! (Via ft.com)
