VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has conveyed clearly to cattle keepers in the city that the civic body will continue to seal their shades and impound cattle kept therein. Drastic action is being taken by the civic body in wake of the string of incidents in which citizens were injured due to attacks or accidents involving cattle.
Representatives of cattle owners had met mayor Keyur Rokadiya on Monday and sought that cattle impounded from shades that were private premises should be released as they were not stray cattle.
They demanded that at least calves and cows that were yielding milk should be released by the civic body.
Rokadiya, however, stayed firm and said that cattle shades in areas where attacks on citizens were reported will be sealed and cattle there will be impounded.
He asked the cattle owners to ensure that the cattle do not come on the road endangering citizens.
VMC teams had recently sealed cattle shades near Vaans Talavin the eastern parts of the city and impounded cattle there.
The step was taken as a youth lost his eye in an accident involving a cow not very far away from the area.
The cattle owners also sought a permanent arrangement to handle the issue of cattle menace in the city. They claimed that their shades had come inside the city due to the expansion of the city. They sought space outside the city to relocate the cattle. At least four people have been attacked by stray cattle on the city roads in less than a fortnight.
