'Finally!' - Liverpool fans react to Ibrahima Konate shirt number announcement

Liverpool have this morning confirmed Ibrahima Konate will take the number five shirt at Anfield for the upcoming campaign.

Konate, who joined from RB Leipzig on July 1st, will take the shirt that was left vacant after Gini Wijnaldum's five-year stay at Anfield came to an end at the start of this month, as he joined French side PSG.

Upon releasing the new 2021/22 away kit, Konate's new squad number, which seemed to have already been leaked following a video posted online showing Konate celebrating with his family and friends, was confirmed by the club.

Excited by the arrival of the French defender, Liverpool fans took to social media to react to the news.

If Konate is able to replicate the same reliability as Liverpool's previous No.5, Wijnaldum, then the £36million Liverpool were forced to shell out could turn out to be another shrewd piece of business by Edwards and Co.

Liverpool begin their pre-season training on the 12th of July, and Konate is expected to link up with his new teammates at Kirkby on the first day back, as Jurgen Klopp looks to get his newest addition settled in as quickly as possible.
