Customers at the Airdrie branches of Aldi have a further week to donate any new and unwanted socks to the supermarket’s collection for homelessness charities.
Big-hearted shoppers have already handed in more than 1000 pairs of footwear to the “sock amnesty” boxes at its stores across Scotland, including the branches at High Street and Manse Place.
They will remain in place until the end of the month, when the items will be donated to good causes Simon Scotland, Aberdeen Cyrenians, and Trust in Fife.
Richard Holloway, the company’s regional managing director for Scotland, said: “With one week to go, we wanted to remind people that they can still put any unwanted, new and unused socks to better use; a massive thank you to all our customers and colleagues who have donated so far.”

He added: “We wanted to do something to support homeless charities who are working day in, day out to support the most vulnerable people in society.
“One thing they say they’re always looking for is socks, so we thought – why not allow our customers to donate any unwanted socks they’re given as a Christmas present to people who will really value them?”
Simon Community Scotland representative Hugh Hill said: “Scottish winters are absolutely freezing and we often just don’t have enough socks to go round.
“We’re so pleased that Aldi has launched this initiative and we’re so grateful to them and their customers for helping to keep the people we support warm this winter.”
Aldi is also donating £250 to each of the charities as part of the “Not Socks Again?!” initiative, which launched on Boxing Day.
