Skate’s biggest playtest update yet is set to begin on July 2. As outlined in The Grind: Vol 3, invites for version 0.27 will roll out in waves to everyone registered as a skate. Insider.

Registration for skate. Insider closes on June 27. Anyone signed up before that date will be included in the wave-based invites for the upcoming playtest. Players should make sure their gaming account is properly linked when signing up, as this will be important for receiving skate. Insider rewards when Early Access launches. A support FAQ is available for those who need help connecting their console.

Community feedback helped shape what’s next in Update 0.27, which brings a mix of upgrades, fixes and refinements to the game. Here’s a preview of what’s coming.

Visuals and Performance

Players have been asking when visuals would get a boost and that time is now. San Vansterdam looks more alive than ever, with upgraded lighting, shadows, textures and added details like graffiti, signage, foliage and more pedestrian and vehicle activity. The UI has also gotten a visual refresh and the in-game map now shows other players. On top of that, server capacity has been bumped up to 150 players, while overall performance has been improved across platforms.

More to Do

There will be more content to explore this time around. The Market Mile neighborhood will be unlocked, the number of missions has more than tripled and players will have over 140 challenges to complete. The early tutorial has been streamlined to get players into San Van faster.

Progression and Rewards Overhaul

Progression has been reworked based on community suggestions. Collection Score no longer gates challenge progression and reward moments feel more satisfying with bigger celebrations and better in-game Product Boxes.

Character Customization

Character creation has expanded with new appearance options, additional hairstyles, gestures and emotes. More customization features are in the works for future updates. For the full breakdown, be sure to check out the latest edition of The Grind.
