Final score and goal scorers from Bolton Wanderers vs Huddersfield Town

Bolton Wanderers' B team suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town.

Wanderers' second string took on their counterparts from Huddersfield this afternoon at the club's Lostock training ground. It was the start of the Central League Cup campaign.

Bolton's first chance came after 10 minutes when Connor Stanley's free kick was headed over by Conor Carty. The former Manchester United and Wolves youngsters would cause problems for much of the first half.

Town responded as Luke Hutchinson was forced into action to deny Myles Bright. At the other end, Carty tried to find Gerald Sithole with a low cross but his delivery went just out.

A Max Conway penalty appeal went unanswered, while Sithole crossed for Carty but the former Wolves man could not connect with it. A Stanley free kick around the half-hour mark was headed off target by Caarty with another good chance.

As Wanderers dominated, Lamine Toure was unable to connect with a low Conway cross in the box, which followed Carty's effort being deflected over.

Town stopper Nicholas Bjlokapic denied both Carty and Matt Tweedley. A quick free kick routine saw Carty cross for Sithole but the former Gillingham man could not connect.

Town took the lead before the break as Charles Ondo slotted home past Toure and Hutchinson to give the hosts the advantage. After the break, Stanley found Nelson Khumbeni in the box and forced Bjlokapic into a low stop.

Before the hour mark as the visitors grew in confidence, Hutchinson made a low stop from Aaron Lowe with his feet. But he was powerless to stop Ondo getting his second moments later as the Yorkshire side doubled their advantage.

Sithole was in the right place on 63 minutes to meet Matty Grivosti's cross from the right but he missed the deliver as a good chance went begging. Carty fired a free kick high and wide as he beat the wall but the ball would not drop down.

Toure went into the referee's book with fewer than 20 minutes remaining for a foul on Bright. But Sithole halved the deficit with fewer than 10 minutes to go after firing into the roof of the net from Carty's cross but the visitors emergd victorious.

Bolton Wanderers: (3-4-1-2): Hutchinson; Senior, Toure, Tutte; Grivosti, Tweedley, Khumbeni, Conway; Stanley; Carty, Sithole.
