Final Premier League table simulated with Chelsea missing out on title despite great start

Chelsea have had a good start to the season under Thomas Tuchel, suffering just the one loss this season and picking up 26 points from a possible 33.

The Blues have been tipped to be one of the sides that will be involved in the Premier League title race this season, along with Liverpool and Manchester City.

It has been those two sides that Tuchel has failed to beat in the run-in so far, losing 1-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side and holding onto a 1-1 draw with ten men at Anfield.

The only other league game they haven’t won was a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley just before the international break, where Chelsea failed to take their chances and the visitors took theirs.

While it will be a disappointing result, there won’t likely be any panic from a Blues perspective, knowing that injuries to both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku have been a factor and could have damaged their form more than just the two dropped points.

The results leave Tuchel’s men at the top of the table, though the race is just heating up. Chelsea are top with 26 points, whilst Manchester City are just three points behind in second.

West Ham’s good form has taken them into third, also three points behind the Blues. Liverpool sit in fourth on 22 points after a loss at the hands of the Hammers just before the break.

If form continues, the Premier League ribbons could have the blue of Chelsea draped over them again, however there is a long way to go before that is in the bag.

However, data experts FiveThirtyEight have simulated the remaining Premier League fixtures and currently have the Blues finishing third in the league and six points from the title.

Guardiola’s City side are expected to lift the trophy again with 85 points come the end of the season, as Liverpool finish a close second with 81 points. Then there’s Chelsea in third with 79 points.

West Ham currently round out the top four with 64 points, just squeezing ahead of Manchester United who have 62 points in fifth.

The simulated table comes just after the start of another international break, though it is the last for a while as we head into a busy set of festive fixtures.

This run of games could make or break the season for Tuchel and time will tell if the table is as accurate after those matches are played out.
