Final injury report for Chargers in Week 1

The Chargers released their final injury report leading up to the regular season opener against the Colts on Sunday, courtesy of the team’s official Twitter.

Cornerback Trevor Williams (quadricep) will not play. Williams was dealing with an “undisclosed” injury the majority of training camp and preseason, and coach Anthony Lynn didn’t give much detail. Now that we know what the injury is, the only question regarding it is the severity.

CB Michael Davis will get the start opposite of Casey Hayward in place of Williams.

It’s unlikely that linebacker Jatavis Brown (ankle), safety Roderic Teamer (hamstring) and wide receiver Geremy Davis (hamstring) will play.

If Davis is ruled out, look for the team to call up Artavis Scott or Andre Patton from the practice squad to fill the fifth spot.

Kicker Michael Badgley (groin) and linebackers Denzel Perryman (ankle) and Drue Tranquill (back) are questionable.

The coaching staff has been slowly easing Perryman back into it after suffering a season-ending injury in 2018. Tranquill was “sore” following the preseason finale last Thursday, and it isn’t significant.

As for Badgley, his injury is more concerning. If he can’t play, punter Ty Long will kick and punt. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be the holder, per The Athletic’s Daniel Popper.

Long has experience kicking off and kicking field goals, as he did it when he played in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
