The Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy will soon come to an end with next year's third and final entry, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. The Square Enix RPG was the last big announcement for today's Summer Game Fest live show, and one you can play on PC when it launches next year.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi joined Geoff Keighley on stage for the reveal, which included a trailer packed with FF7 iconography you'll recognize in a heartbeat, like the Highwind, monstrous Weapons, and footage of Vincent and Cid in battle. You can check it all out for yourself in the not one, but two trailers that debuted during the show.
Shortly after the first cinematic aired, Hamaguchi invited Matt Mercer—the voice of Vincent Valentine—to the stage to talk us through an even longer gameplay reveal. The battle system is the same real-time tactical hybrid from the first two, but now you have the additional party members that weren't playable in Rebirth along for the ride.
Both Final Fantasy 7 Revelation trailers throw a lot at you, so here's what stood out to me at a glance:
- Ability to fly around the open world in the Highwind
- You'll also jump out of the Highwind and parachute to your destination
- Brief looks around the Wutai and Mideel regions
- Playable Vincent Valentine, your gunslinging ally that also transforms into a beast
- Playable Cid Highwind, the party's resident Dragoon
- New FITS system for playing dress up and learning new movesets, very classic Final Fantasy (and X-2) of them
- A showdown against the Weapons, FF7's kaiju-like monstrosities, and some of the hardest fights in the original
Square Enix didn't provide a specific date just yet, but Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches in spring 2027 and will be available through the Epic Games Store and Steam.
