We don't know an awful lot about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. Square Enix is yet to show off what it looks like, confirm when it'll be out, or even tell us its official name. What we do know, though, is that Chadley is back, baby.
You know, that nerdy little dweeb everyone loves to bully? Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy lead Naoki Hamaguchi puts it a little more politely in a new interview with Restart, as he says that "we understand that many fans are fond of Chadley." Not sure if "fond" is the word I'd use, but anyway.
While Hamaguchi can't comment on "whether he's become a playable character" for the third and final part of the JRPG's revival – as Restart previously suggested to the director that he should – it's made clear that we can definitely expect more of Chadley, for better or worse.
"Chadley will continue to play an important role even in the final installment of the trilogy," Hamaguchi says. "His strong curiosity and tendency to talk a bit too much – inherent traits that he's aware of and somewhat self-conscious about – will be further explored in the third game, too."
Considering that, again, a recurring response to Chadley's existence is straight-up bullying, it's amusing that Hamaguchi says he'd be happy to see fans "warmly follow how Chadley becomes involved in the story and what role he takes in supporting it." Let's hope "warmly" also encompasses making fun of him at any given opportunity – I'm sure folks will be doing that. Enough with the VR headset, dude.
As for what impact he'll have on the story, only time will tell. After all, he didn't even figure in the original Final Fantasy 7, so we don't have anything to go on in that regard. Hamaguchi previously acknowledged some of the more off-the-wall theories about him, though, including that "some people think that he's actually evil and will turn out to be the last boss in the final title." At the time, he said: "We were cracking up about that." Who knows, perhaps we'll see some sort of joking response to that in the game itself?
