Final Destination is getting a reboot courtesy of Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
New Line Cinema is reviving the horror franchise after it proved to be a cornerstone of the studio's horror output in the early 2000s.
Each film centres around a character who has a premonition of a deadly event, who saves themselves and several others, before realising that their destined date with death cannot be avoided.
The film installment, released in 2000, was directed by James Wong and starred Devon Sawa and Ali Larter.
It proved to be a significant box office success, making $112m worldwide on a $23m budget, leading the franchise to release four more installments, ending on 2011's Final Destination 5. The franchise grossed almost $700m in total.
No plot details for the reboot have been revealed. Melton and Dunstan have written four of the Saw movies, alongside Piranha 3DD.
Meanwhile, New Line will this year release a third Annabelle film and It: Chapter Two, with the latter hoping to repeat the massive box office success of the first part of the Stephen King adaptation.
