Final Catalan GP results as five riders penalised and Mir loses MotoGP podium

MotoGP has published the final results for the Catalan Grand Prix, more than two hours after the race finished, after concluding several technical investigations.

Five riders have been penalised for infringing tyre pressure rules, including Joan Mir - who had provisionally scored Honda’s first podium of the year in second place.

After being hit with the standard 16-second time penalty, he dropped to 13th place - and will leave Barcelona with just three points from the weekend.

Other riders who fell foul of the rules included Yamaha’s Alex Rins (originally 11th), Pramac duo Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlioglu (originally 14th and 15th) and Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse).

As a result, Rins slipped to 14th in the final order, with Miller taking the final point in 15th place. Razgatlioglu and Fernandez are now classified 16th and 17th respectively.

Meanwhile, Fermin Aldeguer moved up to second in the final order on what was otherwise a tough day for Gresini, while Francesco Bagnaia was elevated to the final spot on the podium.

The factory Ducati rider had originally taken the chequered flag in fifth place, but already moved up a place after Trackhouse’s Ai Ogura was penalised for causing a collision with Pedro Acosta at the final corner.

The result marked the first podium of the season for the factory Ducati Team, while the Borgo Panigale marque also locked out the top three spots as Fabio di Giannantonio claimed victory for VR46.

Bagnaia was also investigated post-race for a technical infringement but was cleared by the technical director after it was concluded that the loss of pressure was caused by a “leaking wheel”.

Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi was another big winner, as he took 13 points for fourth in what was his least competitive outing of the season.

The high number of penalties were likely down to the race being restarted twice, forcing most riders to switch to soft rears and adjust the tyre pressure according to the shortened race distance (12 laps).
