We've tried several times for comment and no reply so think we're fine. PB.

A takeaway in Oldham has been fined nearly £1,000 after council hygiene inspectors found the premises to be filthy.

Council officers carried out a routine inspection of Arbeez, on Yorkshire Street, in August last year and found the takeaway was littered with food debris and mouse droppings.

The light switches and banisters were dirty, and there were areas of bare brickwork and wood panelling.

There was also a dead mouse on the floor and cooking utensils were left unclean.

Arbeez serves burgers, chicken, pizza and kebabs and claims on it's website to offer 'great food at affordable prices.'

Muhammed Saiid Shafiq, of Humber Street, Cheetam Hill, appeared as a representative of Arbeez at Tameside Magistrates court on 21st March 2019.

He pleaded guilty to three offences under the Food and Safety Regulations and was fined £933.

He was also ordered to pay contribution costs of £950 and a victim surcharge of £93.

Helen Lockwood, Deputy Chief Executive at Oldham Council, said: “Within the last 15 months, the council has carried out 1,220 food inspections.

“Less than two per cent of inspections have resulted in prosecution meaning the vast majority of our businesses owners are running premises that operate within the law.

“Although 98 per cent of these visits result in no prosecution, it is important that we continue these inspections on a regular basis to ensure that establishments are complying with the food safety standards.”

Since January 2018 there have been 23 prosecutions at 22 different businesses across Oldham, and businesses have been fined £98,357.98 for these violations.
