Filming of new season of Peaky Blinders postponed and fans are unhappy

Peaky Blinders and Line of Duty fans are not happy after it was revealed that filming has been postponed on both series.

The delay for series six of gangster drama Peaky Blinders was announced on the programme's Instagram page.

The post said: "After much consideration, and in light of the developing situation concerning Covid-19, the start of production of Peaky Blinders series 6 has been postponed.

"Huge thanks to our incredible cast and crew, and to all our amazing fans for their continued support."

A BBC spokesperson confirmed that filming had also been postponed for bent coppers drama Line Of Duty, also at series six.

They said: “In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, the producers – Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Productions – of Peaky Blinders S6 have postponed filming, and World Productions on Line of Duty S6 have suspended filming, both in consultation with and supported by the BBC.

“We will continue to review all productions on a case-by-case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organization and Public Health England.”

Fans are devastated about the news that two of the Beeb's most popular programmes have been suspended, Machester Evening News reports.

One said: “I thought 2020 was a bad year. Now it’s the apocalypse as far as I am concerned.”

A second posted: “I completely understand, but that’s absolutely done it now...the war on COVID19 starts now. Bent coppers need nicking!!”

A third said: “I thought it was already filmed and in editing ?!. This has ruined my isolation......”

A fourth wrote: “I am gutted but it’s completely understandable and the right decision to make with what is going on right now.”

Another agreed: “I’m gutted but it will be so worth the wait and I’m so glad you’re putting everyone’s safety who’s involved in this season first!”

Elsewhere a source close to Netflix's The Witcher Project said that filming for the series had been halted.

The source said: "Cast and crew health is our primary concern.

"We are dealing with an unprecedented global pandemic that is beyond our control, and in many instances with mandates or restrictions imposed by governments."
