Filming of Netflix show The Witcher halted due to Covid-19 after cast spotted in County Durham

Production of Netflix show The Witcher has reportedly been put on hold after four people working on it tested positive for coronavirus.

Season two of The Witcher is said to have seen production halted for a second time this year due to several positive coronavirus cases.

The Witcher is being filmed in the UK with the cast recently spotted filming at Low Force Waterfall, near Barnard Castle, County Durham last month.

Actress Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer of Vengerberg, and her co-star Freya Allan, who stars as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, were spotted by fans at the beauty spot.

There’s no word yet on when production will resume but Netflix is carrying out tests on all cast and crew.

However, the positive cases are not said to be among the lead cast and those affected are now isolating, the Daily Express reports.

Production only resumed on season two of The Witcher in August this year after a shutdown in March, but it looks like there could be another delay in the series now.

There is no concrete release date from Netflix as yet but the new series is expected to be released in 2021.

It is understood Netflix will resume work on The Witcher season two once it deems the set is fully safe again.

Season two filming first started in February 2020 but sadly the show saw production suspended back in March after Britain went into lockdown.

While the shutdown was only initially intended to be for a couple of weeks, the UK lockdown saw this stretch to several months.

The first halt came as actor Kristofer Hivju – better known as Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones – revealed he had tested positive for Covid-19.

Hivju has now fully recovered after he was quarantined for several weeks and updated fans via his Instagram account back in April.

Netflix declined to comment.
