Filming of hit Netflix show The Witcher takes place at County Durham beauty spot

The cast and crew of The Witcher have been spotted filming in County Durham.

Actress Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer of Vengerberg, are her co-star Freya Allan, who stars as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, were spotted by fans at Low Force Waterfall, near Barnard Castle.

The production team was spotted building an old suspension bridge over the River Tees ahead of filming.

Pictures of the crew at work were caught by landscape photographer John Stead of Northern Wild.

The show also stars Henry Cavill as the Witcher, Gerat of Rivia, though the actor was not seen filming.

Filming of the second series of the Netflix fantasy series started in August after the coronavirus pandemic halted production.

The Witcher team announced filming would resume via Twitter on August 17.

It read: “I'm dusting off my lute and quill/I have some news, some mead to spill. After all the months we've been apart/It's time for production to restart. The Witcher and his bard - who's flawless/Will reunite on set 17 August.”

The first season of the show was watched by 76 million households and followed the journey of the Witcher, who is a mutated monster hunter and slays monstrous beasts.

The release date for the second series is not known yet.

A prequel series, called Blood Origin, is also being made by Netflix that will be set around 1,200 years before The Witcher.
