Filming in Wyndford: Irvine Welsh TV drama being filmed in Glasgow's Maryhill

Filming for a new TV series based on an Irvine Welsh book is underway in the city.

Crews have been spotted shooting the six-part drama Crime in the Wyndford area over the last few days.

The drama is a sequel to Filth and follows the story of Ray Lennox, a Lothians detective who attempts to get over a mental breakdown by taking a holiday to Florida with his fiancee.

However, the events that unfold there begin to remind him of the child murder case in Edinburgh that caused him to suffer the breakdown in the first place.

Filming for the show began in Edinburgh last month before crews rolled into Maryhill over the weekend.

The drama marks the first time Welsh's work will have been adapted for television and will star Dougray Scott in the lead role, with support from Angela Griffin, Joanna Vanderham and Jamie Sives.

James Strong is directing the show which is expected to debut on the streaming service Britbox later this year.

Speaking about the project, Dougray Scott said : “Irvine Welsh is one of Scotland’s greatest-ever writers and I am proud and excited to be working on his first adaptation for television.

"It’s an honour to be working with such a talented cast, and creative team”.

Director James Strong added: “I’m thrilled to be starting production on this dramatic execution of Irvine’s brilliant novel. With a great cast in place we’re working together to create a classy work of pathos and genuine emotional quality which is grounded in gritty realism.

"Viewers can expect a dark, visceral, shocking ride."
