Film4 head David Kosse jumps to STX to lead international division

April 01--David Kosse, the head of British independent movie company Film4, is joining upstart movie studio STX Entertainment.

Kosse will oversee the Burbank company's new international division from its London office, where he will lead marketing and distribution for STX's films. He will officially take the job June 1, STX said in a statement.

Kosse has been the director of Film4, the movie production unit of Britain's Channel 4, since 2014. Film4 is best known for developing and co-financing recent Oscar fare such as "Room" and "Ex Machina."

Producer Robert Simonds launched STX in 2014 with funding from private equity firm TPG Growth and Chinese investor Hony Capital, and later announced a partnership with China's Huayi Bros. for film financing.

STX in the last year has released movies including thriller "The Gift" and horror flick "The Boy." Its next major release is the experimental action movie "Hardcore Henry," which hits theaters April 8.

Though Kosse doesn't join the company for a couple of months, he will consult on upcoming releases including "Bad Moms," starring Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell, and the science fiction adventure "The Space Between Us," STX said.

The company plans to begin direct distribution of its movies in Britain and Ireland next year, followed by other international markets.
