This week the German director Werner Herzog is our guest. He discusses his documentary, Cave of Forgotten Dreams, a 3D film that explores the Chauvet cave, discovered in 1994 in the Ardèche region of southern France. The cave is closed to the public to protect its 30,000-year-old wall paintings of animals.
The interview took place in March as part of a special screening of Cave of Forgotten Dreams to mark the 100th anniversary of the Ritzy cinema in Brixton, London. After Jason's interview the audience put questions of their own to Herzog. He discusses his use of 3D but also his career to date and why he has so often returned to documentary.
