Jason Solomons meets Alma Har'el, director of award-winning documentary Bombay Beach, a study of the once-prosperous California resort on the inland salt lake, the Salton sea – and now a place of desolation and decline.
On a cheerier note, Jason is joined by the Guardian's Peter Bradshaw to discuss the week's big films. First up is Carnage, Roman Polanski's four-handed adaptation of Yasmin Reza's stage play, starring Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster alongside John C Reilly and Christoph Waltz.
They also run the rule over Charlize Theron in Young Adult, a film scripted and directed by the Juno team of Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman, and ponder the merits indie sensation Martha Marcy May Marlene, directed by Sean Durkin and starring Elisabeth Olsen.
