Really charming and funny ... Thomas "Tommo" Turgoose in Somers Town
Back from my holidays - partially spent witnessing a miserably wayward Rhys Ifans propping up every bar in Ibiza - and my first duty is to thank Xan Brooks for holding the mic in my absence.
What a joy to be greeted on return by Somers Town, Shane Meadows' delightful new monochrome film featuring a really charming and funny performance by Thomas Turgoose. I speak to the young actor known as Tommo about his blossoming career, working with Shane and waiting to see if he's passed GCSE drama.
Xan Brooks joins me to tear into the week's releases. They include Somers Town, and its roots as an advertising project funded by Eurostar; the Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway vehicle Get Smart; downtown Manhattan doc Face Addict; and, finally, as part of a great season of 21st century Chinese cinema at Bfi Southbank, China's controversial entry from Cannes 2006, Summer Palace by the terrific Lou Ye.
Xan also talks to Guillermo del Toro, the Mexican director who is straddling the worlds of big budget Hollywood and European art-house. They discuss Hellboy and Guillermo's feverishly-anticipated next project, The Hobbit.
Enjoy the show and, as ever, we look forward to your comments on the blog.
