Film Weekly meets Spike Lee and Joe Wright

This week, on its 20th anniversary, Jason Solomons meets director Spike Lee to talk about the legacy of Do the Right Thing, its profound effect on American independent cinema and the role it played in bringing the Obamas together. Lee also discusses filming his epic documentary about Hurricane Katrina, When the Levees Broke, as well as his upcoming projects.

Jason then meets British director Joe Wright, who goes from the British settings of Pride & Prejudice and Atonement to the streets of Los Angeles for his latest film, The Soloist. Based on a true story about an LA Times journalist who befriends a gifted musician with schizophrenia on Skid Row, it stars Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. Wright discusses the evolution of the film, how he was introduced to the Skid Row community and ended up involving many of them in the film.

Finally, Xan Brooks joins the pod to review The Soloist, Disney's flamingo documentary The Crimson Wing and the reissue of Francis Ford Coppola's classic The Godfather.
