Film Weekly

In our Oscars special podcast, Jason Solomons talks to Cate Blanchett about dealing with the red carpet, playing Sheba and working with Judi Dench in Notes on a Scandal, Djimon Hounsou pops in to chat about Blood Diamond, Africa and Leonardo DiCaprio, and we find Film Weekly's more excited about Blood Diamonds's Oscar nominations than Hounsou is himself. We also hear from Ricky Gervais, Catherine O'Hara, Eugine Levy and Christopher Guest ahead of For Your Consideration.

We review Old Joy and while not much happens in the film, Solomons says, there's a wonderful quiet to the scenes, which charmed his socks off and we talk to Daniel London about making the film with Will Oldham. The rest of the week's movie releases didn't get such a warm response - Venus "masquerades as a comedy but never quite gets its tone right", Bobby provides some fun but is ultimately a "self important film", The Lives of the Saints starts well but "descends into blithering anarchy", while The Fountain is a "poorly acted, wretchedly scripted film lit like a Terry's All Gold commercial".

Plus, your chance to win one boxed set of Douglas Sirk movies. Film Weekly - how do they get it all in?
