Film star Ryan Reynolds watches Wrexham AFC in National League season opener ahead of proposed takeover

The National League has made its long-awaited return this weekend, much to the delight of Deadpool star and prospective Wrexham AFC owner Ryan Reynolds.

The actor is hoping to take over at the Racecourse alongside Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Rob McElhenney, and is already taking a keen interest in the club's exploits on the pitch.

Reynolds posted a picture on his official Instagram page of the live stream of today's clash with Boreham Wood ahead of kick-off, no doubt excited to see his team in action.

It's still all very surreal.

The actor was recently named as a potential £2m investor in the club, which has been fan-owned since 2011, with members voting in favour of talks proceeding head of a potential takeover.

A statement by the club said: "Talks with the proposed bidders will now continue and we are in a position to confirm the two people interested in investing in Wrexham AFC.

"Rob McElhenney is an American actor, director, producer and screenwriter, best known as the creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia .

"Ryan Reynolds is an award-winning Canadian actor, writer, producer and business entrepreneur whose credits include Marvel’s Deadpool.

"In due course, Mr McElhenney and Mr Reynolds will put forward their vision for Wrexham AFC and proposal for members to vote on at a second Special General Meeting."
