Film show: Matt Damon stars in Marseille-set thriller 'Stillwater'

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

Playing an American oil rig worker visiting his daughter in southern France, Matt Damon is paired with French actress Camille Cottin in the edgy thriller "Stillwater". Loosely inspired by the Amanda Knox case, director Tom McCarthy has drawn some impressive performances from the international cast. Film critic Lisa Nesselson tells us why this thriller takes a subtle approach to its structure and avoids the pitfalls of some of the screen clichés associated with France.

Meanwhile, filmmaker François Ozon tackles a matter of life and death in "Everything Went Fine", his adaptation of a memoir recounting the challenges and poignant ironies involved in efforts to carry out an assisted suicide in France.

We also revisit the horrors of the Yugoslavian conflict through the eyes of the compelling interpretor at the centre of "Quo Vadis, Aida?".

And a surf and skateboard festival here in Paris brings street culture to the big screen.
