Film review: Giants’ Daniel Jones displays strong arm, toughness

New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones took the next step in his development against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night, proving that he’s not only a quality talent, but that he’s tough as nails, too.

By his own admission, Jones took the biggest hit of his life courtesy of Bengals defensive end Carl Lawson, who beat left tackle Nate Solder ahead of a bone-crunching hit of Jones.

That stood out to NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger, who has been impressed with Jones from the onset, but is even more impressed with him now.

Beyond just Jones’ toughness and resilience, Baldinger points out several other noteworthy qualities about the rookie first-round pick — his impressive footwork, his ability to lock safeties in place and the ability of the play-action pass.

Fellow NFL Network analyst, Charley Casserly, also broke down some of Jones’ Thursday night film and he came away with an interesting conclusion — Jones has a strong arm. Who would have guessed it?

Perhaps somewhat ironically, Jones is having the most impressive all-around preseason of any of the first-round quarterbacks, and even performed leaps and bounds better than Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was lit up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense.

Another week in the books, and more faulty narrative put to bed.
