Film reflects on world of Jim Thompson

Celebrate Jim Thompson's 113th birthday anniversary today with a screening of the documentary Silk Reflection by Jim Thompson at the Jim Thompson House Museum on Kasemsan 2, Rama 1.

Silk Reflection is a documentary film directed by Nat Sakhonbut, reflecting on the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company's Every Colour Under The Sun 2018 Collection, which is important in terms of changing the design concept of Bangkok-based designers. The new collection resulted in a transformation in the method of producing hand-woven silk by local weavers at Jim Thompson's Pak Thong Chai factory in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Silk Reflection is the director's second documentary film and was produced exclusively for Jim Thompson with the objective to convey the philosophy behind Jim Thompson from the past to the present. The project took nearly two years to finish.

The film also reflects different views and ideas of Jim Thompson's staff who are involved in the creation of this collection. The major changes made to hand-woven silk production by Jim Thompson in the past 30 years have not only created a positive impact on the global market, but also affected the way of life of local weavers who are at the core of Jim Thompson and the basis of its corporate culture.

Nat worked as an advertising photographer for many years before he began creating documentary films. His interests focus on the subculture behind a community's lifestyle. He continues to believe that there are certain cultural sub-elements that are important but often overlooked when providing background. Nat's first documentary involved skateboarding and the underground-music phenomenon related to skateboard culture. He also developed an interest in design and has begun to focus on the relationships between contemporary design and past lifestyles, and how these and human relationships have an effect on design development.

Silk Reflection runs for 90 minutes with English subtitles.
