Film legend Tamer Hassan reveals he and Love Island star daughter have family missing in Turkish earthquake

Film star Tamer Hassan has revealed that he has missing family in the rubble of the earthquakes that have killed 17,100 people in Turkey and Syria. The 54-year-old actor, who is known for roles in Layer Cake (2004) and Batman Begins (2005), struggled to hold it together during an appearance on Sky News on Thursday, February 9.

Almost in tears, Tamer said: "We have family missing. Due to the cold weather, we're not hopeful... we're quite worried. I have no words. We're all devastated. We have family that are lost. I'll be heading to Turkey, we're trying to find a route in to the worst affected areas."

Tamer, along with his Love Island star daughter Belle and friend Danny Dyer, is currently leading a campaign to raise £100,000 to help with the humanitarian crisis. More than 23 million people have suffered because of the 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes this week. The death toll has hit 17,100 but thousands more are missing. 10.9 million people have been affected by the catastrophe in Syria and 13.5 million people in Turkey, according to the UN and Turkish officials.

Tamer isn't the only celebrity to come forward to say they've been affected by the earthquakes. Love Island 2022 winner Ekin-Su Culculoglu has also revealed that some of her extended family have been forced to sleep outside due to the earthquake.

Speaking on Sky News earlier in the week, she said: "I have members of my family who have obviously experienced the shake, they've been outside, they've been sleeping outside. It's scary because it's people who are very close to me. I've had numerous people on Instagram reach out to me, they've sent me locations of an address, pictures live. They are screaming for help." Ekin-Su recently took part in ITV1 Sunday night entertainment show Dancing on Ice, where she was the third contestant to be eliminated from the show. You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.
