Film crews take over Heywood park as shooting for Shameless creator Paul Abbott's latest drama gets underway

If you've been to Queen's Park in Heywood this week you might have spotted something a bit unusual.

Close to the river a wrecked car lies half submerged in the ground, as if it's been driven off the bridge above.

It's not the aftermath of a nasty accident, but a prop for a TV set - thought to be Shameless creator Paul Abbott's latest drama Wolfe.

Starring Star Wars Rogue One actor Babou Ceesay, the show is due to air on Sky TV.

The film crews arrived at the park earlier this week and are due to leave on Friday.

Andy Eckersley, a member of the Friends of Queen's Park, said: "We found out from Rochdale Council - we believe it's a drama called Wolfe, which is on Sky.

"They arrived in the car park of Queen's Park late on Monday night (March 1).

"They've set up some lighting and odd bits and bobs in the park and we think they're leaving Friday afternoon.

"It's shining a light on Heywood - people when they watch it can see where it was filmed.

Filming has been taking place late at night (STEVE ALLEN)

"There's a number of vehicles parked up - we've put it up on Facebook for health and safety purposes.

"Filming takes place late at night."

Filming for the drama also took place in January in Didsbury.

Sky has said that Wolfe centres around forensic pathologist, Professor Wolfe Kinteh - said to be the north of England's finest crime scene expert.

The synopsis says: "Wolfe runs the local university forensics department working hand-in-hand with the police to investigate crime scenes and pass on his laser sharp insight to the next generation of crime fighters.

"Half genius, half liability – he's worth the hassle as he gets results."

It adds: "Each week Wolfe is propelled into a new environment to piece together the parts- in some cases literally - to solve the crime.

"One thing is for sure though, he won't be doing it in a way anybody expected."

AbbottVision, the production company behind the show, has been contacted for a comment.
