Film crews at Bristol Cathedral for second series of ITV detective drama

Film crews were spotted at Bristol Cathedral yesterday (September 23) shooting a detective drama.

McDonald & Dodds first aired on ITV in March and just five months later it was announced there would be a second series due to high viewing figures.

It is not yet known when the show, which follows two unlikely cops who are paired together to investigate crimes in the Bath area, will return but ITV has confirmed there will be three new episodes for season two.

McDonald & Dodds was originally commissioned as two feature-length episodes - The Fall of the House of Crockett and A Wilderness of Mirrors - but ITV asked the production company for more after it proved popular with viewers.

About McDonald & Dodds

McDonald & Dodds follows the wildly ambitious DCI McDonald (Tala Gouveia), as she is paired with the shy, modest DS Dodds (Jason Watkins).

While McDonald has transferred from the mean streets of South London to leap up the career ladder, Dodds has happily languished for most of his working life.

McDonald is a tough, driven, battering ram of a cop who cracks cases through sheer force of will, while Dodds is quiet, unassuming and enigmatic.

But thrust back into frontline action for the first time in a decade, he discovers a hidden talent for deciphering puzzles.

McDonald & Dodds stars BAFTA-winner Jason Watkins alongside Bristol Old Vic Theatre School graduate Tala Gouveia (The Bottle Yard)

Each episode takes us into a new story, from a greed-fueled murder in the upper echelons of Bath society to an unexplained death in a private hospital for recovering addicts.

With a classic crime story at its heart, McDonald & Dodds combines intriguing plots and the journey of two mismatched detectives with warmth and humour.

Speaking after filming for the first season wrapped, managing director of Mammoth Screen, Damien Timmer, said: "It was an absolute pleasure to shoot McDonald & Dodds against the backdrop of modern Bath and Bristol, and we're hugely grateful to the local communities for being so welcoming."

Actors including Robert Lindsay, Hugh Dennis and Joanna Scanlan guest starred in the first two episodes.

It is not yet known which stars will be featuring in season two, but it has been confirmed that Gouveia and Watkins will reprise their respective roles of DCI Lauren McDonald and DS Dodds.

Yesterday (September 22) film crews were in Clevedon to start work on new sci fi blockbuster, The Last Bus, commissioned by Netflix.
