Film crew runs for cover as van explodes in terrifying stunt on Michael Bay set

Crew members run for cover in an explosive stunt from the set of Michael Bay's new film.

Taking to his social media, the Transformers director insisted his sets are safe despite the terrifying stunts.

Michael is currently filming his new thriller Ambulance in Downtown Los Angeles, California and wanted to give his fans a look at what explosive stunts they can expect from the film.

On his Instagram account, Michael shared a video of a street littered with cars and actors as an approaching van teeters towards police cars before an explosion rips through the van and into some cars.

The actors and crew appear to flee out of the way to avoid being hit by any debris.

Michael captioned the post: "Filming my new movie. I’m the guy in black on the dolly.

"We do these controlled but dangerous looking shots. It takes a great crew to make these shots possible. Knowing the physics involved and catch cars.

"At the end, everyone was safe. This phone video makes it look scarier that it was in person."

The original screenplay for Ambulance was described by The Hollywood Reporter as follows: "The project is described as a three-hander that tells of two brothers that steal an ambulance that is already in a heightened state with a female paramedic and a patient who is in critical condition."

Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal and The Maze Runner's Dylan O'Brien had originally been cast as the brothers, but scheduling conflicts led to the departure of O'Brien from the cast.

Following rewrites of the script, Watchmen star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was cast opposite Gyllenhaal.

Also starring alongside Jake and Yahya is I Care A Lot and Baby Driver actress Eiza Gonzalez as the paramedic.

After Ambulance, he is due to direct the film adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's science-fiction novel Robopocalypse.

*Ambulance is due to be released in cinemas on February 18, 2022.
