Film classic Big is getting the musical treatment and Nottingham's Strictly star is taking on iconic Tom Hanks role

Cherished Hollywood classic BIG is the latest film plucked to be given the all-singing, all-dancing musical treatment and taking the lead will be Nottinghamshire's own Strictly Come Dancing star.

Yes, stepping into Tom Hanks' 80s sneakers and onto that larger than life piano, will be former The Wanted heart-throb and Newark native Jay McGuiness.

The 29-year-old is now deep in rehearsals for the West End production of the 1988 blockbuster alongside Girls Aloud's Kimberly Walsh and former Stars in their Eyes host Matthew Kelly.

It will land at London's Dominion Theatre for a nine week run from September 6 with tickets starting at £29.50 from bigthemusical.co.uk.

Speaking at the launch of the musical - which tells the story of 12-year-old Josh Baskin's encounter with the magical fortune-teller Zoltar and his subsequent granted wish to become 'big' - Jay revealed what he'd wish for if he was a kid agin.

"If I was 10 again," the Strictly winner says, "I probably have wished to play in a band."
