Former AC Milan star Filippo Maniero signed for Rangers in 2005 then barely kicked a ball again.
And 15 years later the Italian striker has lifted the lid on one of the Ibrox club's strangest signings - a move he has branded the worst decision of his life.
Alex McLeish captured Maniero's signature on deadline day after skint Serie B side Torino had just released a raft of players.
The 33-year-old arrived in Glasgow with an excellent Serie A pedigree, having also played for Parma, Sampdoria and Atalanta.
But remarkably, he never played for Rangers or even made a matchday squad, before leaving the club by mutual consent after less than two months at Ibrox.
And Maneiro admits he made a terrible mistake signing for McLeish and Rangers because it ended his career.
He said: "I was playing for an excellent Torino team, but they went bankrupt when we were in Serie B and we were all freed.
"I was 33 years old and I knew that this was going to be my last transfer move.
"I was hoping I would get a move back to Padova where I started my career, but instead, I made the worst decision in my life...I signed for Rangers.
"I accepted the offer from Glasgow, but in the two months I was there, I never played.
"The first chance I got, I thanked them and went home. And that was the way my career ended. I never played football again.
"It was the only decision in football that I would change when I look back."
At the time, McLeish explained: "We had a reciprocal agreement that, if either party felt it would be better to go our separate ways, then that would be the case.
"We wish Pippo all the very best in the future."
