Filipe Luis reveals he held talks with Manchester City over summer transfer

Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis has revealed he held talks with Manchester City during the summer transfer window but the move failed to materialise.

The Brazilian spent just one season in the Premier League after signing for the London side in 2014 for £15.8million. Luis made 26 appearances at Stamford Bridge before Jose Mourinho confirmed he would be leaving the club to rejoin Atletico Madrid.

Luis became a regular under Diego Simeone after moving back to Spain but left the club this summer when his contract expired.

Given his vast amount of experience, the 34-year-old wasn't short of suitors and revealed Manchester City were interested in bringing him back to England.

Pep Guardiola was eager to sign cover on the left side given Benjamin Mendy's chequered injury history, but Luis said the deal didn't work out.

He told Globo Esporte: "From January until March I had an offer from Manchester City, but it didn't work out."

Luis also held talks with Lyon, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain before opting to move back to his homeland with Flamengo on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

City instead resigned Angelino from PSV Eindhoven by triggering their buy-back clause to provide competition, but the Spaniard is yet to make an appearance since moving back to Eastlands.
