Filipe Jota eyed for Celtic transfer as Benfica rising star lined up to fill Ryan Christie gap

Benfica talent Filipe Jota is on the transfer radar of Celtic.

Parkhead manager Ange Postecoglou is looking to add to his squad before Tuesday’s deadline and Record Sport understands the 22-year-old forward has emerged as a potential option.

Greek striker Georgios Giakoumakis is on the verge of sealing a £2.5million move from VVV Venlo, while the signing of Liam Scales was announced on Friday.

And we understand that another deal is in the pipeline before the window slams shut on Tuesday night, with Jota ready to come in on loan from Portuguese giants Benfica.

He spent last season on loan with Real Vallodolid in La Liga, scoring once in 17 appearances, and it is believed the Lisbon outfit are open to sending the winger out again to gain more experience.

The 22-year-old was a member of the Portugal under-19 team which won the European Championship in 2018, with his side getting the better of an Italy team featuring Nicolo Zaniolo, Moise Kean and Sandro Tonali in the final.

Jota's five goals made him joint top-scorer at the tournament, and he was named in UEFA's best XI.

He has often been mentioned in the same breath as Joao Felix, the Atletico Madrid star and his former Benfica team-mate.
