Filip Helander tests positive for Covid as Rangers defender set to miss crucial games

Rangers have confirmed their Swedish international Filip Helander has tested positive for coronavirus.

The big defender will now self-isolate in accordance with government guidelines and will be unavailable for 10 days after the result was returned.

The 27-year-old hasn't started for Steven Gerrard 's men since he made two crucial mistakes in the 3-3 draw with Benfica earlier in the month.

Until that point he had been in excellent form and had made 13 appearances in the heart of the defence alongside Connor Goldson.

He will now miss games against Standard Liege and Ross County as well as today's match with Falkirk.

The club wished their player the best as he recovers from the virus.

"Rangers can confirm that Filip Helander has returned a positive test for Covid-19.

"He will self isolate in line with government guidelines. We wish Filip well and look forward to his return to our squad."

The result is the first positive test that Rangers have returned this season.

Other clubs have had issues with the virus, and Jordan Jones and George Edmundson were both banned for breaching protocols, but Helander is the first member of Gerrard's squad to test positive.
