Filip Helander teases Mikael Lustig as Rangers star reveals title messages with Celtic hero

Delighted Filip Helander admits he teased Mikael Lustig over Rangers' title victory - but revealed the former Celtic star was quick to send him a message of congratulations.

The defender is an international team-mate of Lustig's and the 34-year-old had played a major part in Celtic's nine-in-a-row run prior to leaving in the summer of 2019.

Lustig spent a season with Gent before returning to his homeland to join AIK and is still a regular in the Sweden squad alongside Helander.

Helander was vital for Rangers as Steven Gerrard's men cruised to the league title this season, and he revealed the pair shared some texts when the title was clinched earlier this month.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Helander laughed: “He’s not so happy but I’m happy.

“He has received little jibes. But he has actually congratulated me. I expected nothing else."

Helander missed much of last season with a foot injury picked up in the 1-0 defeat to Celtic in the Betfred Cup Final last year.

But he's been fit and available for the majority of this season with 29 appearances in all competitions.

And he added: "I think it has gone well. We are still undefeated in our league game, and I have had to play a lot and I have been relatively injury-free. I am satisfied."
