Filip Helander pulled into Rangers squad for Europa League clash with Legia Warsaw

Rangers have drafted Filip Helander into their Europa League squad to face Legia Warsaw - with Brandon Barker ruled out.

The £3million summer signing from Bologna was a surprise omission from Steven Gerrard 's original squad lodged with UEFA for the tie.

But the Sweden international was a late addition ahead of the trip to Poland and could now play a part in the playoff tie with a place in the lucrative group stage awaiting the winner.

UEFA rules allow up to two changes to be made to squad lists up to 11pm the day before kick-off in the first leg.

It is unclear why Barker has been withdrawn from the squad but fellow new signing Andy King was on the flight.

Gerrard will meet the media on Wednesday evening at which point he will likely explain Barker's withdrawal.

Helander made his competitive debut for Rangers in Sunday's 3-0 Betfred Cup victory over East Fife.

But he remains behind Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and George Edmundson in the running for a central defensive berth with Goldson and Katic expected to get the nod in Warsaw after their impressive start to the campaign.
