Filip Helander in Rangers injury blow as defender is stretchered off against St Johnstone

Rangers will be fearing the worst after Filip Helander had to be stretchered off in their 2-1 win at St Johnstone.

The big Swedish defender was seen limping after challenging Saints goalscorer Michael O'Halloran in the Premiership encounter.

The 28-year-old had to leave the pitch on 77 minutes to be replaced by Jack Simpson.

On international duty last week, Helander missed some action as he's struggled for fitness in recent times. With Connor Goldson missing the match at McDiarmid Park, it could leave the Ibrox men short at the back.

It's unclear whether Goldson will be back in contention for Thursday night's Europa League Group A opener at home to Lyon.

If Helander is also out, it leaves Rangers a bit light on options in the centre of defence for the visit of the French outfit and Steven Gerrard with a decision to make.

The Light Blues bounced back from O'Halloran's opener early in the second half as Kemar Roofe levelled from the spot before skipper James Tavernier netted the winner shortly after Helander exiting the fray.
