Filip Helander in Rangers fitness fight for Celtic derby as Ibrox star pulls out of Sweden squad

Rangers star Filip Helander has pulled out of the Sweden squad with an injury and now faces a battle to be fit to face Celtic in 10 days time.

The defender has been a mainstay in Steven Gerrard's team since returning from a long-term injury suffered in the Betfred Cup Final last year but missed Sunday's 2-0 win over Ross County.

And now he's had to pull out of the Sweden squad for games against Russia, Croatia and Portugal over the next week.

Sweden boss Janne Andersen explained that Helander had arrived at the camp with a 'light injury' and they made the decision to send him back to Scotland instead of potentially aggravating it further.

That is good news for Rangers who will hope he is back fit and ready to partner Connor Goldson at the heart of the defence at Celtic Park, at a time when they have been hit with a series of injuries.

The Ibrox men are already without Croatian defender Niko Katic for the long term while they've had a host of issues in midfield with Ryan Jack just returning and Joe Aribo out injured.

Borna Barisic and Connor Goldson also picked up knocks at the weekend and any further issue for Helander would cause concern for Gerrard.
